Our Last Dance me cluttering up the poetry section again - have a couple other things I may post in the next few days too.
wrote this the other week with this of kind of distance I have from my marrage now...idk how to explain it...read it tonight at open mic...
Our Last Dance
1/23/10
The last song at our wedding should have been my clue
If nothing else had been
That it was already over from the start
Because you wanted to talk to your cousin
Rather than dance with me
It was a song I had picked that you didn’t really know
So I softly reminded you
After it had been on several long moments and
You’d made no move to take me to the dance floor
“This is the last song” I said
“I know” you nodded but still
You made no move
I stood there awkwardly
Not knowing what to say
Not wanting to seem too pushy on our wedding day
Hoping you’d conclude the conversation quickly and we’d dance for the end
But you didn’t
And I stood there sadly
Feeling ignored
As the music faded away
Not aware at the time
How used to that feeling I’d become
By the end of it all
