“Apple Juice”
I don’t know about you all,
But I prefer apple juice to lemonade.
Now I’m not just talking drink concoctions,
I’m talking about something a little deeper.
Life, your life, your existence is worth while.
I ain’t going to sugar coat it for you all,
Life can be downright painful and uncomfortable.
It’s not all flowers and cookies with milk,
Sometimes there’s no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow,
Because that bastard leprechaun took it and left for Vegas.
I’ll give it to you all straight, life sucks sometimes.
But regardless of it being peachy or not,
Make the most out of yours.
See when life gives you lemons,
Make apple juice instead,
And leave them all wondering
What the hell just happened.
Yeah, there are going to be hard times,
Where it feels like the world is out
To drop that banana peel,
And then bust a gut laughing
When you hit the ground.
There are going to be times
When you want to throw in the towel,
Flip the finger to the world and say,
In the words of Eric Cartman,
“Screw you guys, I’m going home”
Rest assured though, your life will have its perks,
So enjoy the ride while you’re still on it.
Smile, live it up, laugh, yes even when it’s inappropriate.
Because the ride ain’t long and you don’t get another go.
Stop sweating the small stuff and enjoy what you get.
Who says you can’t change the hand you were dealt?
You can swap out three more cards,
Or four if you’ve got an ace.
Life is going to suck sometimes,
But make the most out of yours and don’t forget to smile.
So when life hands you lemons, make apple juice instead
And leave them all wondering what the hell just happened.

“Being Their Tongue”
When death takes away the ones we love
It hurts from within every inch of us.
Feeling like a part of us is empty
As we come to the realization
That we will never wake to their smile,
Nor look upon their face.
Their touch missed for years to come,
Trying to reach out to them
But alas only embracing the void between.
However, try to remember,
That they may be gone from our sight,
But they will never be gone from our life.
They live on, in our hearts and dreams,
Laughing with us in joy,
And weeping with us as we miss them.
Age has no relativity when it comes to grieving,
It could be someone’s brother, or father or aunt,
When the absence is felt, it hurts from the inside out.
Death though be it painful,
Will never take away our memories of them.
Their smile seen in our mind’s eye as we dream,
As well as their laugh resonating
When we remember the good times shared.
They will always live on through us,
Holding us with their spirit
When we start to long for their touch.
Though the ones we love die,
They will never be ripped away from our lives.
When death comes to steal away the ones we love,
It hurts from within every inch of us.
Be not despondent however.
Instead, be their tongue,
Tell their story for years to come,
Living on through each one of us.
Never to be forgotten
No matter how many memories we lose.
So close your eyes and dream,
They will come to visit you there.

“When You Said Yes” (For Craig Roche)
Before I found my voice
I was wayward and lost.
Wandering my own mind
Hoping one day I could find acceptance.
Long before I found my way home,
You said yes to giving others
Like myself a home for those
Who wished to speak.
You gave us a chance
To become a family,
You gave us a stage
To feel like rock stars.
You gave us a mic
So the whole world could hear
The whispers of our passion.
You gave me another gospel
So that I may find faith
In the voices of those like me.
Long before I found sanctuary
You opened your doors
To some of the greatest minds
I’ve ever come to know.
And I thank you,
Now and forever.
Craig Roche, I invoke your name.
Listen to me from Heaven,
Because I know you’re there.
For no soul great enough
To give poets a stage,
Should deserve anything less.
I call out your name,
Right now at this moment,
On the stage you gave us.
With the mic that makes me heard,
I call on you Craig Roche.
So that my quiet voice
Will become a sonic boom;
Shooting past the stars,
Becoming loud enough
For the souls in Heaven and Hell
To hear how much I will miss you.
You gave us wayward minds
A place to rest and come together.
Your legacy will forever be
On the lips of every poet
Who walks through those open doors.
You are the first star that Galileo
Ever set tired eyes on.
Before I found my voice
I was wayward and lost.
No destination to end my journey,
My dreams shrouded by night.
But you, Craig Roche,
You gave me a star to reach for.
Shed light on my dreams,
Made me part of your sacrament
When you said yes.
