babygirls dreams pregnancy diary!
PAMPERS WEBSITE:
Your little one's heart has been beating furiously for weeks, but it's only just become loud enough for your doctor or midwife to hear with a special listening device called a Doppler. You'll be able to hear it too! A foetus's heart beats twice as fast as yours, anywhere between 120 to 140 beats per minute. (Don't worry if your midwife can't pick up the beat yet. Your foetus may be lying in a position that muffles the sound.) If you're like many women, hearing the rapid thump-thump of your little one's heart will be your favourite part of the prenatal visits. In addition to perfecting its beat, the heart has become a proper four-chambered structure over the past month, although some of the dividing walls won't be complete until after birth.
A fine layer of skin has been forming over the foetus's body during the past few weeks. Now, a specialised layer develops into what will become the fingernails and toenails
Your little one has grown quite a bit since last week-the crown-to-rump length is just over 5 cm (about 2 inches). The foetus's head alone is nearly half the length of the body, which shows you how rapidly the brain is growing. Genius in the making!
HUGGIES WEBSITE:
Your baby is now 5 - 7.6 centimetres or 2 - 3 inches long and weighs about 14 grams. Although your baby is now fully formed, he will spend the next six months fully maturing, gaining dramatically in weight and size.
Your baby's eyes are now completely formed and facing frontwards. The bones are growing, although they are still formed from soft cartilage. The hands are now complete with growing fingernails and your baby is starting to move his fingers. However, you still cannot feel your baby moving because he is so tiny.
The placenta now takes over as your baby's life-support system and the centre of hormone production. From now on it will filter vital oxygen and nutrients from your bloodstream via the umbilical cord and into your growing foetus.
